Winchester’s very own Charlotte Cooper has signed onto The Beach Boys record label Brother Records.
The twenty year old first came to the attention of the band at a Beach Boys convention when she was just thirteen. Whilst there, she was given the opportunity to perform on stage, and she was spotted by a record producer in the crowd.
Cooper who once performed in front of a 20,000 crowd at a Beach Boys concert in Los Angeles, is now hoping to do some local gigs to gain more experience before completing her degree in June.

Cooper believes that her singing style has developed since being spotted, and likens her new material to that of MTV award winner Taylor Swift.

3rd Radio Story. Football cup final
Winchester football first’s were yesterday crowned BUCS champions after defeating Glamorgan in Bath on Wednesday.
This was the first time a university team from Winchester had reached a final of such calibre, and they were strongly tipped as underdogs before the game.
Winchester went two-nil down within the first half an hour, but managed to pull a goal back before half-time through a Mike Wheeler penalty.
In the second half Winchester turned the game on its head, with Matt Dawson scoring a brace to make it three-two, before Danny Barber completed the scoring with a chip from just outside the box, making it four-two at the final whistle.
Barber, who was on the books at Crystal Palace as a kid, captained the Hampshire based side to victory:

Radio Production News Bulletin 2
Local cricket clubs, including those in Hampshire may be hit by a massive funding shortfall, according to Winchester’s MP Mark Oaten.
This comes after the government was recommended to move the Ashes test series back to terrestrial TV.
Martin Peters, store manager of Wild Sports in Winchester agrees that the move could be damaging to local club cricket, but also acknowledges that it could have its benefits.

My Radio Production story.
Students from Southampton Solent University have organised a virtual race night for young adults in the Hampshire area.
The event is on the 24th of March and is at Wahoo bar in Southampton. I caught up with Nick and Steve from 5 star events…

The team used a number of advertising techniques such as handing out flyers, making a radio advert for Radio Sonar, and have set up a Facebook event page, and claim to have more than 50 confirmed guests already.

Kant and Freunds
The Kant and Morality lecture took me back to year 12 Philosophy and Ethics, and the confusion which lead me to wasting my time making up stupid Kant puns. ‘I can categorically say that I Kant do this Sir’ didn’t go down at all well with the pony- tailed Mr Tatum-Smith, so I’ve decided to leave the ‘short-sighted foolishness’ out of this blog post as well.
Kant is known for being the last influential philosopher of modern Europe in the series of the theory of knowledge during the enlightenment where he followed the likes of John Locke as a thinker, and David Hume as a man who likes to criticise things all the time.
Kant’s ideas had a big impact on philosophy in Germany during his lifetime, where he moved philosophy beyond the debate between the rationalists and empiricists.
According to Kant the results aren’t important, it is the way they are reached which shape our morality. So as long as things are done properly, you can be confident that your soul will remain intact. So Kant would feel totally comfortable of standing with me in the Sir Bobby Robson Stand at Portman Road as we watch Ipswich play beautiful football, and out-pass the opposition on the way to a 3-0 home defeat.
Kant’s categorical imperative was also mentioned, which is an interesting tool used to find the greater good. It denotes an absolute unconditional requirement that can stamps its own authority in any circumstance, and is an end in itself. This really counters the idea of Utilitarianism which we have also looked at, because it is irrelevant for people only trying to find the good for themselves. And there we have it…John Terry is a Kant.

Patients too ill for hospital?
Hospital managers have made the decision that hospitals are an unsuitable place for those suffering from certain viral infections this winter.
Cases of the winter vomiting bug on the island appear to be on the increase, which has lead to hospital managers making the decision to delay all non-urgent routine surgery.
Many appointments will carry on as normal, and those affected by the changes will be contacted by the hospital.
Families and friends of patients have been urged not visit their loved ones during this time, if they have been suffering from illness in the previous 48 hours.

Police on the Hunt for 'Flasher'.
Hampshire Police are looking for a suspected flasher in the Southampton area after a number of reported incidents.
The suspected ‘flasher’ is described as being White, in his early to late teens or early twenties, and of slim build with brown hair.
Four incidents have been confirmed in the Sholing area, but there are a number of other incidents which may be connected.
The first incident happened at around 3:20pm on August 28 in Sholing Valley. A 23-year old woman reported a man exposing himself and carrying out an indecent act.
The next known case happened at around 5.55pm on September 9. A 44-year-old woman saw a man exposing himself on three separate occasions in the Spring Road area.
Another incident was reported when a man was seen exposing himself to a 48-year old woman on October 31 in the Sholing Valley.
The final incident occurred on November 11 at around 3:25, when a 14-year-old boy walking through Millers Pond saw a man committing an indecent act.
People with any information which may be of any use to the case, are urged to contact PC Rachel Gallimore at the Public Protection Unit or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
